Internships

Stone Barns welcomes interns who are dedicated to our mission of celebrating, teaching and advancing community-based food production and enjoyment. Interns will apply for and focus on one component of Stone Barns: livestock, four seasons growing, education programs, public programs or marketing and communications. Interns must be at least 16 years of age to apply. Descriptions of specific internship opportunities are attached.

Internships at Stone Barns are unpaid positions and housing is not provided, but academic credit may be awarded from the intern’s school. Stone Barns site supervisors schedule regular meetings with each intern to review the progress of the internship. If requested at the conclusion of the internship, site supervisors will provide interns with a written evaluation that can also be used as a reference.

Interns benefit from a schedule that is both intensive and consistent. To encourage rewarding and productive internships, Stone Barns requires a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week for at least one month. Interns will be expected to contact their site supervisor with any schedule changes.

Many Stone Barns internships involve strenuous physical labor, e.g., lifting 30+ pounds, using hand and power tools, and exposure to sun and cold.

Please complete the attached application, and be sure to specify which internship you are applying for. In addition, please complete and return the Stone Barns waiver and provide a current resume. A selection of applicants will be invited to Stone Barns to interview with the site supervisor. For most internships, applicants will be asked to work on the farm for a trial period of two days. Internship acceptance will be based on the application, interview and trial work period. Stone Barns reserves the right to terminate internships at any time.
