Flowers on the Farm
Join us for this farmer-led discussion, tour and demonstration focusing on the many ways you can use flowers – from culinary and medicinal ingredients to aesthetic and artistic pursuits. Shannon Algiere, the Center’s Flower and Herb Manager, will begin the class with an in-depth discussion exploring the nature of flowers from their role on the farm to their cultural history. Afterwards, the class will walk out to the flower gardens where they will identify varieties, harvest edible flowers, and Shannon will demonstrate the process of making a flower essence. Then, as the culminating activity, the class will move inside to make a salad and hors d’oeuvres using edible flowers, and assemble seasonal bouquets.
