Lessons from an Accidental Beekeeper: A Reading and Honey Tasting with Marina Marchese
On Saturday, June 18 join us as we welcome beekeeper and author Marina Marchese to Stone Barns for a reading and discussion of her book Honeybee: Lessons from an Accidental Beekeeper. Marina will also lead participants in a tasting flight of her single-origin artisanal honeys, including how to taste and evaluate honey by color, taste and flavor. Books will be available for sale and signing.
Twelve years ago, Marina Marchese fell in love with bees while touring a neighbor’s hives. She eventually left her job, acquired some Italian honeybees, built her own hives and began harvesting honey. Inspired by her growing connection with the bees, she earned a certificate in apitherapy, trained as a honey judge at UGA and launched Red Bee ®, her own business selling honey to noted restaurants and artisan food shops nationwide. In Honeybee, Marina shares the story of her transformative relationship with honeybees – an experience that changed her life as well as her perception of the natural world and her role in it. In addition to her work as an author and entrepreneur, Marina is also the president of the Back Yard Beekeepers Association in CT and lectures and writes extensively about beekeeping and honey.
