Where Are They Now: Alexis Barbalinardo

Alexis came to farming through nature- and farm-based education. After college, the New Jersey native spent several years at the Exploring New Horizons Outdoor School in Loma Mar, Calif., taking kids on woodland hiking overnights, milking goats, gardening and becoming certified as a Wilderness First Responder. Along the way, the Vassar College graduate became more interested in farming itself, and so she made her way to Stone Barns Center in spring 2013 to learn greenhouse production as an apprentice; she continued her education there as a propagation apprentice in 2014. In early 2015, Alexis was recruited by fellow apprentice alumna Nichole Norby to succeed her as manager of the Back 40 Farm in northwestern Connecticut. Alexis’s days are now filled with tending five acres of organic mixed vegetables, cut flowers, eggs and herbs for tea, managing a CSA and getting her products to market.
