Leadership

Sara Elliott

Sara Elliott is director of programs at Stone Barns Center. Her passion for helping create a more sustainable food system grew from her career in conservation and sustainable design. For eight years, Sara worked for The Nature Conservancy as the director of signature programs, where she created a national traveling exhibition on sustainable natural materials and launched the organization’s first foray into online education. Previously, Sara worked on large conservation-oriented development projects for a land-use consulting company, including strategic planning for Stone Barns Center. Sara has also worked for Harvard University and Congressman Earl Blumenauer’s Livable Communities Initiative. Sara has an M.A. in urban planning from Harvard and a B.A. in philosophy from Colorado College.

Sara is focused on amplifying the impact of Stone Barns Center’s public, education and training programs to create a healthy and sustainable food system that supports us all.

On the side: When not wrangling her two active boys, Sara enjoys her volunteer work as founder and board chair of Mundo Verde Public Charter School, which is focused on sustainability and global citizenship.
